The Last Explorer
A downloadable Explorer 's Company for Windows
The Last Explorer — V0.2
An early colony management and expedition game where every explorer matters.
Lead a small group of survivors into a forgotten world. Gather resources, craft equipment, build your settlement, and send expeditions into the unknown.
Every mission is a risk.
A successful expedition may uncover forgotten knowledge, rare resources, or legendary artifacts.
A bad decision may cost the lives of your explorers.
Current State
Official Prototype Version 0.2
V0.2 is a significant step beyond the first playable prototype. The core game loop is now supported by a growing colony, a wider range of characters, crafting, equipment, trading, building, and a more developed world.
This is still an early work-in-progress prototype. Some areas are intentionally sparse, and many systems are still being expanded.
Expect:
- Bugs
- Temporary UI and visuals
- Missing content
- Unbalanced systems
- Placeholder or unfinished areas
What You Can Do
The Colony & Its Survivors
Survivors now have their own types and classes, with 19 currently available, each with its own appearance and characteristics.
They have individual stats and gain experience through missions and encounters.
Hunger is part of the survival system: if it is left unmanaged for too long, it can become lethal.
Missions & Exploration
Choose a zone and a mission, assemble a team, and send them out to explore.
Expedition events are branching encounters with multiple possible choices and outcomes. The results can depend on the situation, the choices made, and the abilities of the survivors sent on the mission.
The Forest is currently the most developed biome, with around 40 different events and multiple interconnected event chains.
The Plains are beginning to take shape. Other regions — including the Mountains, Swamp, and Ruins — currently contain little content.
Crafting & Equipment
Gathered resources can be turned into useful equipment through a growing selection of crafting stations.
Current stations include:
- Carpentry
- Sewing
- Smelting
- Blacksmithing
- Jewelry
Equipment has rarity tiers, requirements, and passive bonuses. Some pieces can complement each other when worn together.
Recipes and discoveries unlock new crafting possibilities as the colony progresses.
Controls
ZQSD / WASD — Move E — Interact B — Open Build Mode F1 — Tester Mode
Tester Mode
F1 instantly grants resources, provides one of every equipment item, and unlocks all progression content.
This is useful for testing advanced crafting, rare equipment, and late-game systems without going through the normal progression.
Current Features
- Dynamic NPCs with individual stats, types, and classes
- 19 survivor types/classes
- Expedition and mission system
- Branching expedition events
- Resource gathering
- Discoveries and progression
- Crafting and multiple crafting stations
- Equipment with rarity tiers, requirements, and passive bonuses
- Grid-based settlement building
- Furniture and decorative props
- Merchant and trading system
- Survivor recruitment
- Dynamic day/night cycle
- Localized lighting
- Save / Load system
- A cat
Known Limitations
Some systems are deliberately incomplete at this stage.
- Sleep and fatigue are currently disabled. NPCs do not get tired and do not need to sleep yet. Hunger is currently the only active survival need.
- The Plains are still being developed.
- Mountains, Swamp, and Ruins contain very little content for now.
- There is a known collision issue with some walls: entering through a door can occasionally leave the player partially inside the wall, allowing them to slide along the inside of the facade.
- A few minor visual sorting issues remain in specific areas of the map.
These issues are known and are part of the current development process.
Planned Features
- More biomes and biome content
- More expedition events and event chains
- Additional crafting stations
- More equipment and artifacts
- Sleep and fatigue
- Further NPC progression
- Permadeath
- Housing
- More discoveries and world-building
- UI improvements
- Audio and visual polish
- Balancing and testing
- And much more...
Feedback
This build is a snapshot of the game in development.
If something feels unbalanced, an event behaves strangely, a mission does not resolve correctly, an item is missing a description, or you simply have an idea for how something could work better, feedback is welcome.
Bug reports, suggestions, criticism, and general impressions are all useful at this stage.
Thank you for taking the time to play The Last Explorer.
Thank you in advance for any feedback!
